Rosh Hashana - VIP

A
mongst the nearly ninety children at the Children's Home, there are many for whom school vacation or holiday is not a happy time, like it is for many of the other boys and girls.

These are the children who cannot return home, even for a short holiday or vacation because the possibility of being exposed again to a harmful environment is too great.

In addition to these children, there are also those who have no family or home at all, or for whom there is real physical danger at home. They thus remain at our campus throughout the vacations and holidays, and are cared for by our devoted staff who invest a lot of thought and effort in creating for them an embracing and supportive experience, as they watch their peers go away.

This Rosh Hashanah the 12 children who remained got a very special treat – instead of a home of their own, they were invited by the staff of the Neve Ilan hotel to be their special guests at their "home".

It was not the first time they had been invited to the hotel. This past summer the wonderful hotel staff, led by Armin Grunewald had hosted all of our children for a day of fun in the sun. But that did not lessen the wonder and delight they expressed on arrival after a short hike from the Children's Home. They ran excitedly to the pool, the playing fields, the inflatable slides, the indoor computer game consoles and the play areas. With memories of the fabulous meal they were served the last time they were here, one of the boys asked excitedly "are we going to get the same yummy ice cream for lunch as last time?" He was not disappointed.

Treated as VIP hotel guests our children had a wonderful lunch and then were invited to a private screening of a movie chosen just for them. When it came time to go home, they begged to remain, even turning down the ride home offered to hike back if only they could stay a while longer.

The wonderful kindness and warmth with which the staff of the hotel hosted these 12 children and made them feel at home, ensured that this holiday vacation would be filled with happy memories.
