Recent Gifts

In the past few months, the Children's Home has received support and help from a variety of organizations, businesses and individuals.  The generosity and the attention given to the children's needs enabled the Home to carry out some of its programs that otherwise would have been postponed.

Two gifts from the Marvell Semi-Conductors Company – its workers and the management – ensured the children's extracurricular activities outside the campus, especially during the holiday season of Purim and Passover. This included trips to the zoo and the movie theatre, and also helped meet the cost of transportation. Additionally, the funds provided for new  clothing for the Passover holiday for those children whose families were unable to purchase clothes for them.  The funds will continue providing for many more outings to the zoo, as well as other day trips.

The unique situation of twenty children at the Home who were unable to go to their families during the Passover vacation and remained on campus throughout the holiday required unique solutions. For one, providing strictly kosher Passover food, when nearly all the children and staff are away and the main kitchen is closed, has always been a challenge. Previously, the Home had to spend much money on purchasing catered food for the duration of the holiday. This year, the children and staff who remained were treated to an outstanding and delicious arrangement: the meals for the Seder and first day of Passover were supplied by the Ma'aleh Hahamisha Hotel, and the Neveh Ilan Hotel supplied all the remaining meals throughout the week-long holiday. The food was plentiful, delicious and given from the heart of the excellent people at both these hotels. Our wonderful, dedicated friends from the Moshav of Neveh Ilan volunteered their time and efforts, delivering the food fresh from the hotels every day.

On May 25th a special ceremony was held to dedicate the new mini-soccer playground for the Home's younger children. With a very generous donation given in memory of Norbert Dankowitz by his cousins, an unutilized area between two cottages was turned into a highly accessible and beautiful mini-soccer field. With grills installed on the first-floor windows of the cottages to protect from flying balls, a rich synthetic lawn installed, and shade-creating colorful sails above the field, the Norbert Playground was created and became an instant success.

Additionally, our gratitude goes out to the many schools and companies who donated costumes for th Purimcelebrations, and to the family of Mannie Olswang who sponsored a full day of fun at an ecological farm.
